Purines, Pyrimidines & Nucleotide Metabolism

Purines are extremely important and are vital components for sources of energy needed by our body for it to carry out its functions. Along with pyrimidines, they are also essential for production of RNA and DNA.

Several disorders of purine metabolism lead to immunodeficiency and this increased susceptibility to infections is also seen in pyrimidine metabolism disorders too. Kidney problems, developmental delays and seizures are also key symptoms. Neurological problems can range dramatically in this group of disorders.
